This wonderful breed of goats
is super sweet and very eye-catching. Originally bred in South Africa
as meat goats, today's boers and boer crosses dominate the goat meat
industry worldwide. But boers can also be some of the most showy types
of goats, and boer showing is very popular all over the USA as well as in
other countries. Boers come in five colors: traditional (white
body and reddish-brown head), paint (white body with reddish-brown
splotches), solid red (a full reddish-brown body), black traditional (white
body and black head), or solid black (a completely black
goat). Known as a very loving breed, they have dog-like personalities
and will run to people for scratches and attention...especially when treats
are involved.
