You can see from the picture to the left how wide Marigold is and how muscled her chest is. Marigold and her sister Paprika (above) are basically identical when it comes to body type.  In addition to her width, she has the length you want to see in a doe without being tubular; she's already showing the wedge shape and body depth that she inherited from her dam. She also has plenty of muscling (especially along her loin and her chest) and a nice, wide horn set. Marigold was born large (8.5 lbs!) and is still one of the largest kids of her age we have.

We got Pez as an bottle-baby orphan quad, but she has turned out exceptionally! Although she is not as large as the other goats her age because of her birthrank, she always gets comments from the judges about how nice of a goat she is, and she has won ribbons to prove it! She is the deepest goat we own, even at her age of less than a year, as well as the widest besides Violet. Pezzy looks so, so feminine (we call her "dainty") but that sure doesn't stop her from being in Queen Goat right behind all the adult goats! She is very chunky and solid and we REALLY can't wait to see what her babies look like.

Abba Zabba is one of our favorites; she's long long long, nicely muscled, level-topped (she stands like a table!), and had very good width. She is also one of the very sweetest goats you'll ever meet! She has always placed highly in her classes, even though she ends up being one of the younger goats. At Cottage Grove 2008, she won 3rd place in a class of almost twenty goats -- and she was one of the youngest! She is also smooth as can be. We get comments about her wherever we go. Check out her picture on our Boer Goats title page; she's at the bottom right (Kaylyn's showing her).

Bonnie is probably our most active goat, and it shows when you look at her muscling. She has a wonderful, easy-going temperament, has correct conformation with a good long loin, is clean two teated, and she has a nice, wide chest like her parents.  She also tracks wide in the back and has very nice muscling in her hindquarters.   Her color is a gorgeous shade of deep ruby.  This little girl is star quality, and she passes it on to her kids. Her first doeling is unbelievably thick and wide, with lots of mass and bone; she does very well at shows even though her birthday unluckily places her as the youngest of the class every time.

This little doe is very beautiful; she is a handsome shade of dark mahogany with small splotches of darker red along her neck and withers.  She has very nice conformation, very wide set horns, a definitive boer head, lots of femininity, and 4 clean teats.  On her first kidding she surprised us with two huge, gorgeous twins. Her dam has thrown and raised three sets of triplets so we're looking forward to see what Rosie brings in the future. She passes on her wonderful wedge, depth of body, femininity, and friendly personality to each of her kids. (We apologize -- this is an old picture; we'll get a new one up ASAP)

Sweetie has an extremely strong top-line, a very nice horn set, is very wide, and has lots and lots of length. We are commonly told that she is one of the smoothest, nicest looking does people have seen. She has passed both of her ABGA visual inspections  She has a total of six different ennoblements in her lines, which include the bucks Sumo, Aflac, and Blue Chip.  Both her great-grand dam and her dam are ennobled, and her sire is Amigo, who recently was ennobled.  Because of her large size she kids easily, and she is an excellent mother, too.

Comments:

This doe is stunning!  Copper Creek described her as upright, level-topped, stands square, and two-teated.  We can't think of a better description!  Violet is a light shade of redalmost a caramel color.  She loves attention (she was a bottle baby) and is so sweet and playful.  Violet is very, very wide, has an extremely long twist, has a huge body capacity (lots of depth), and to top it off, she has the length as well! Because she loves attention, she is one of our easiest goats to show, and she always places well. (Sorry this is an old picture, we'll get a better one up soon!)

Our Herd

Herd Does

Our first foundation does are settling in nicely at Runner Duck Farm.  They are very people-oriented, running to greet us whenever we are outside.  They love to be petted, and do their best to get their share of the attention.  See below for some details of our five does:  SweetTart, Violet, Rosemary, Rapunzel, and Bonfire.  Overall, they are a very nice group.  They have become fast friends, doing everything togethereating, sleeping, playing games such as queen of the log pile and chasing each other around the barn.

2008's kidding season yielded six doelings and two bucklings from high quality sires, including Lynx Hollow's William, son of USBGA Ennobled Victor.  For the 2009 kidding season, we have seven does bred to bucks chosen specifically for them. See the For Sale page for pictures of the sires.

We are well on our way with our goal to raise happy, healthy, high quality fullblood boers that are structurally correct and have an excellent temperament.

Comments:

Rapunzel has come from the highly reputable ranch (Rocking 4R Boer) with an outstanding breeding program.  She came to us somewhat reserved and proud.  However, after much pampering by Alice (who may have favored her goat a bit), she now is arguably, the sweetest, most personable of the bunch.  But, don't think she's too soft to compete.  So far, she has won two reserve grand champion rosettes.  Rapunzel has excellent conformation with a beautiful coat.  She has an especially level top-line and ample depth of body, as well as length.  On her first kidding she had triplets, and she raised all of them by herself. Her buckling won Reserve Grand Champion as one of the youngest bucks at the show!

The first thing that you notice about Ingrid is how solid she is. She is a CHUNK. Her twin sister died at birth (our error; we weren't present to dry her off), so Ingrid ended up getting all her dam's milk and growing into a huge girl. She has a attractive deep red cape, and a very nice roman nose and feminine head. She is wide, wide, wide and she has the body capacity and spring of rib the judges look for. Ingrid has the meatiest hindquarters out of all the 2008 kids (she takes after her dam). This picture doesn't do her justice; we'll try to get another one up soon.

Paprika and her sister Marigold (below) are nearly identical; at the double-judged show in Cottage Grove the judges kept switching them around. Paprika always does well in her classes; she is meaty and long, with the width you want. WE were quite surprised when she, this huge 8.5 lb baby, came out of the more dainty Rosie. She has the body depth and length of her dam and the width and muscling of her sire. When she was just a baby, she had a black head, but the tips of the hair have turned brown now. Because her dam is solid red, Pappy carries the color gene. We are curious to see what colors her first kids turn out to be!
